| Torvajanica (14 kilometers south of Ostia and about 35 from Rome) is a little residential city on the coast. The sea in this particular area has greenish brownish tones because it takes the colour of the sand, which is very rich in iron.
The legend tells that Aeneas landed on these shores, as narrated by Virgil in the Aeneid.
This mythological origin seems confirmed by the findings neighbours (the archaeological area of the 13 are), what was perhaps the ancient Lavinium.
Torvaianica, owes its name to the Tower of Vajanico, commissioned by the Popes of 1500 for the sighting and defence against incursions by Saracen pirates.
