This monumental fountain by Nicola Salvi - a minor architect of the 1700’s, was inspired by Oceanus and the artfully built cascades, tumble down to flow between the central group of statues of Neptune and Triton – the work of Pietro Bracci.
The two statues of Abundance and Salubrity set into the lateral niches, are by Filippo della Valle.
The special intimacy conferred by the restricted dimensions of the Trevi Square, creates in everyone a desire to return and enjoy the spectacle, so to ensure this it has become customary for the tourist to throw a coin into the fountain, making a wish to return.
