SANT'EUSTACHIO FOUNTAIN
Sant'Eustachio is the eighth district of Rome. Its emblem is formed by the head of a deer (symbol of the holy district of the same name) and the bust of Jesus. The figures are in gold and the background is red. In Rome, membership in a district, had always an high symbolic value in the events of urban life.
In 1985, during excavations in the courtyard "Palma", between the buildings Madama and Carpegna, came to light a large tub, originally an extraordinary granite monolith of the Egyptian Aswan, dating back to the Roman Empire. It belonged to the complex of Nero and Alexander, the baths in the area.
Transferred to S. Eustachio square, the beautiful fountain was donated by the Senate to the city of Rome and inaugurated on December 1987 in the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the promulgation of the Republican Constitution.
