piazza di spagna

Piazza di Spagna lies framed by Pincio’s verdant rises, with the spectacular background of the Spanish Steps, commissioned by the French between Bernini’s Barcaccia fountain and the Spanish Embassy to the Holy See, from which the name of the square derives. Piazza di Spagna is a glamorous meeting place where artists from all over the world have found inspiration and debated sitting in the Caffè Greco in Via Condotti, other traditional meeting place.

  • Spanish Embassy
  • Rampa Mignarelli

Being a diplomatic office, only authorised staff can access and so the public is denied the sight of the two heads made by Bernini, the “Damned” and the “Blessed” soul, the Chapel and the Throne Room on the Noble Floor and the refined Eighteenth Century Theatre.

The steep Mignanelli Flight, one hundred steps going up towards Trinità dei Monti  begins in the homonymous small square where it is the homonymous Palace and the “Immacolata’s Column”, commissioned by Pius IX, with a height of 29,23 m, included the statue.
