Promoted by Zanardelli, was designed by Calderini for a job advertisement. The palace, realized in 22 years with reinforced concrete coated with travertine, was inaugurated in 1910.
The building of monumental proportions is inspired to the new baroque architecture and is overlooking the Lungotevere, dominated by the sculptural group E. Quattrini, symbolizing the "Justice" sitting between the "Law" and "Strength", and surmounted by quadrille bronze E. Ximenes.
The facade presents colossal statues representing Cicero, Papiniano, De Luca and Vito, on the triumphal entry side.
Sideways the central windows there are two winged figures representing the Fame with a trumpet and a crown.
Romans call the building "Palazzaccio" because of its huge dimensions and exaggerated decorations that weight down the architectonic lines.
In 1970 threatened to collapse and then abandoned. After a long restoration today is back to host the Supreme Court of Cassation, the real reason of its creation.
