The magic door

The estate where Termini Station was built belonged to the Marquis Massimiliano of Palombara and then to the Princes Massimo.

The entrance of Villa Esquilina stood where is now Via Napoleone III; the villa had an outbuilding with garden and in its fence there was a door called the Magic Doo.

According to the legend, the Marquis of Palombara gave hospitality to a mysterious man who successfully experimented the formula of the philosophers’ stone. Before he disappeared he left in his laboratory some gold and the alchemic symbols with which he had materialized it.

After several unsuccessful attempts, the Marquis engraved the formula on the Magic Door, in the hope that a passer-by could interpret it. During the centuries those astrological symbols mixed with obscure formulas have been a subject of study and many philosophical explanations have been given but none of them has produced gold!
